Holy Grail! // Skincare Products

As we get older, we often become more aware of our skin. To look youthful and naturally flawless is a small desire for most people. Personally, I often get acne around my forehead and jawline. My skin is also oily around my nose and dry around my chin. In Canada, the weather is always changing so my skin has a different story every day.

For the past few years, I’ve been on a hunt for the best products that work for me. Thankfully, I was able to find a handful of products that I love and thought I’d share them with you. Although I don’t use every single one of these products every day, I use them all year-round.

Cleansing:

On some days I cleanse my face with my hands, and on others, I use my Foreo LUNA™ for Combination Skin. I usually use this 3-4 day a week at night, depending on how my skin is doing that day. This device is made with a silicone outer which means bacteria is less likely to cling onto it. The silicone bristles and pulsation are gentle on the skin but help unclog pores quite well. On the back, there is an anti-aging surface which will help reduce the look of wrinkles and fine lines.

Every day, I use the Peony Brightening Foam Face Cleanser from Fresh. This cleanser always leaves my skin feeling super soft.  I will use this with and without my LUNA. The brightening agents help fade dark spots and uneven skin tones. After constant use, I found that the cleanser makes your skin look less dull (something that I struggle with every winter) and leaving your skin feeling very smooth. At first, the word “peony” scared me because I thought the smell of flowers would be constantly on my face. There actually isn’t much of a scent to this products. It has a very light scent that is very fresh. I recommend this cleanser 100% to anyone of all skin types.

For the days where my skin is feeling very heavy, dry or problematic, I like to use LUSH’s Dark Angel. Unlike most cleansers, this comes in a solid form. I wouldn’t use this every day since it is an exfoliant, but I like to deep cleanse my face with this product 1-2 times a week. I like to focus this product around my nose because the charcoal in this cleanser helps absorb and remove excess oil. Unlike some exfoliators, I find that this one is non-abrasive and suitable for sensitive skin. The avocado oil helps the skin maintain hydrated and soft, perfect for those with dry skin. WARNING: It gets a bit messy when using it and a little goes a long way.

Post-Cleansing Treatments:

After I cleanse my face, I pat it dry and immediately spray on my Fresh Rose Floral Toner and gently pat it into my skin. This toner helps my skin retain moisture and reduces redness that I usually get around my cheeks and chin. It is completely alcohol-free so your skin will not dry out. I like to use this twice a day; in the morning and night. The scent is a bit more pronounced and floral but it is nothing unbearable. I actually find it a bit relaxing. On some days (very rarely), I will use this to set my makeup as it will help with dryness and oiliness.

Over the years, my under eyes have been looking super tired. I use the Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream from Fresh to help brighten that area up. The gel feels cool against the skin and reduces puffiness. I like using this at night before bed, that way it can sink in overnight. This product is also super hydrating so my eyes feel nice and supple when I wake up in the morning. You can use this throughout the day. Like most Fresh products, this cream is made for all skin types. It has a subtle rose scent and does not cause irritations (at least for me and what I’ve read).

Moisturizing:

I have pretty dry skin, especially around my chin. I’ve tried many moisturizers (from the drugstore and high end), but the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream is my favorite. It claims to nourish your skin for 24-hours, which I think it lives up to. I only using this at night and still manages to keep my skin hydrated and moisturized. (I try to avoid using this before I apply my makeup because I get oily around my t-zone throughout the day.) This moisturizer doesn’t feel too heavy on the skin; so if you did want to wear it before applying your makeup, I can see it work. The scent is slightly heavier than the eye cream and toner but I find it pretty bearable. I love using this moisturizer all year-round. If you have dry skin, I would recommend you try this because this stuff is amazing!

I feel like the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Light and Classic have been popular for a while. It is such a versatile oil. You can use it on your face, nails, hair and body. I usually use this on my face and neck. Sometimes the dry patches on my skin need a bit more love, so I will mix this oil with some of my moisturizers and apply it to those areas. Overnight, it gets absorbed into my skin beautifully and in the morning, it is bye-bye dry. Believe it or not, this helps control the oil around my nose as well! I haven’t tried the original version, so, unfortunately, I can’t say how much lighter the light version feels. What I can tell you is that once you apply it, it sinks into your skin quickly. I find it feels very natural and soft on your skin. I also like using this with my makeup sometimes. If my cream products (like my Anastasia DipBrow or Cream Contour Kit) are a bit dried out, a tiny drop of this bad boy will bring back the life.

Although many of these products are on the pricier side, I think they are well worth the price. A little goes a long way for most of them, so they do last for a while. Most, if not all, are suitable for all skin types. For someone with combination skin (aka myself), I understand that it is sometimes difficult to find products that won’t make you too oily or too dry. I really hope and encourage you to try at least one of these products.
